As I was climbing up Bancroft yesterday, I had this thought:
ONLY DO SOMETHING IF YOU REALLY WANT TO.
Sounds like bullshit right? But how often do we really follow this simple mantra? I mean, think about it. SO much of our day gets eaten up by insignificant responsibilities, obligations.. 'commitments.' What does this word even mean, 'commitment'? If I say I'm committed to something, who is really going to hold me accountable? The moral judge chillin' on my right shoulder? No. My mother? Ehhhr (Game show buzzer fail). The teacher handing out grades & deciding "futures"? Negatory. *I* decide. Me. Moi. The mother of, wait for it- MYSELF. The Leader of the Supreme World of Natalie Sameemerz.
So back to my original thought-- Your time is valuable. It's the best gift you can give to someone-- your energy, your livelihood. It's an INVESTMENT, so invest WISELY. If you don't want to do something, then don't do it. If you don't want to get coffee with someone (even though you feel like you should since it's your mother's friend's aunt's daughter), DON'T. If you aren't hot on something, why wait for your mind to change? (Because you and I both know it probably won't). If dark chocolate is your drug of choice, why settle for milk? If you want to find a man who loves you, why settle for somebody who just LIKES you.
Because if you really LOVE yourself, you won't settle for less.
